when ive read a lot of these messages about dysconesia people seem to have a twitching leg, when i get it my whole body is jerking; to look at me you would think i am having a fit. except that i am conscous . and its lasted up to 5 hours. Afterwards i am absolutely shattered. has anyone else experienced this, when i get it i cannot walk, because my body would throw me over.
Dyskinesia can affect just your leg, but it can also affect you arms, head, or whole body. It is caused by the extended use of levodopa and the fluctuations of dopamine levels throughout the day in our brains.
If you are a candidate for DBS surgery that may be an option, but there are non-surgical remedies as well. Ask your doctor about amantadine as it may help. Your doctor may also reduce the dosage and adjust the timing of the levodopa. I have had the most success treating my dyskinesia with this approach. However, it comes at a cost as the reduced levels of levodopa also reduce the benefits derived from that drug. It's required frequent levodopa dosage adjustments, but has been worth it. There is an extended release formula of levodopa which helps smooth out the ups and downs of dopamine levels throughout the day. Watch the timing of your medicine and your meals, and, if you can, exercise. Understandably, you are under a lot of stress, but anything you can do to control that may help you, too.
This is common around folks with pd the cause is a side effect of your meds it IS NOT a symptom of pd. I had it from wake up till I fell asleep prior to my DBS surgery. Reduction in my meds stopped it there are meds that can help it see your neurologist asap as it caused me about 35lb's of weight loss.
Thanks bro xx

Dyskinesia is any sort of body movements you can't control other than a tremor how it effects most people is different from person to person I had this 24hrs per day prior to dbs it's your body telling you your meds are to HIGH although to lower your dosage would mean other symptoms may well get stronger. It is not a pd symptom but a side effect of your meds.
