My patient and kind husband diagnosed with PD in 2012 has many fits of anger, uncharacteristic of his personality. He yells, curses and his quieter moments confided that he has had hallucinations. His personality changes have been so severe, that we discussed a revision of his medications with his physician. Unfortunately, with his symptoms, we were limited to changes. Four of his medications have side effects which cause hallucinations and personality changes. This is one of the many reasons we no longer allow him to drive; a decision which he deeply resents. My daughter, age 16 (thank God she is smart and mature!) and I are doing are best to manage his symptoms and properly care for my husband. Though my husband is disabled and cannot work, I must continue to work and make the major decisions in our household. To effectively deal with my husband's issues, we have established a safe word, "time out." All this means is that we all take time off and out, away from one another until he calms down. I have desperately tried to talk him down when he is violent and explosive, but discovered this to be counterproductive. Just letting him sit quietly and cool down is preferable. Afterwards, I have tried to discuss these episodes with my husband, but he has only expressed surprise at my "overreaction." So the post-talk method does not work for me. If anyone has suggestions, please share.

Unfortunately, my sweet Hunny has been witness to several 'rages' in which my ugly twin rears her head, swearing and lashing out at whateer is in her path.

My husband has PD and had DBS 2 years ago he was diagnosed at 43 and is now 62. Since the operation his personality has changed completely. I can understand he has a new lease for life but he is now very impulsive,impatient, upsets people ,can get aggressive,racist (he n was never any of these pre op). He now laughs at people not with them as he used to. He binge drinks then swears and wants to fight people. I feel anxious and on edge but try not to show this. I have moved into my own room now as his night terrors were keeping me awake and he kept lashing out at me. He talks of going back to work,even moving abroad all pipe dreams. It's got to the point my own children don't want to be around him,he's always making things difficult for everyone It's like living with a stranger. He tells me he hates me and says awful things then calls me a liar, he won't admit his behaviour is wrong, he's just not the man I married I feel trapped and am hanging on by a thread,life is not happy for our family,any suggestions?. He got medication for the night terrors but doesn't take it very often. I haven't spoken to anyone medically about the behaviour, also he has had to see his consultant alone because of covid but I know he would of told her he's fine as he always does. If he asks me a question and i don't answer in 2 secs he gets annoyed or says OK and walks off its so frustrating.Also he talks constantly through any TV programme it's pointless trying to watch anything,this is new since the op,his sleeping is very random up in the night sleeping all day. He's on low medication now so I'm convinced it was something to do with the op. I am interested in hearing from anyone else with similar circumstances.

I wish I could. I always tell my guy what he did and says during his sleep. These episodes happen occasionally not every night. I think its side effects from meds.
