I was diagnosed 20 years ago and have great doctors. Whenever I've experienced a change in symptoms, my neurologist and internist have always been able to offer a solution, with one exception . . . I realized several years ago that when I can taste, I cannot smell, and when I can smell, I cannot taste. The doctor told me that was one issue there was no remedy for. I've found that there seems to be a short period of time when I first awaken in the morning that I have a slight sense of taste, and, therefore, I make my favorite Haagen-Daz Chocolate Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Bars part of my breakfast. I love good food and think my brain helps me to remember how the foods I really enjoyed taste and so I eat them but rarely have seconds. I've lost a few pounds, but that was not a bad thing!
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I don't think it's the Sinimet that destroys appetite. I don't take Sinimet (or any levadopa) but have lost some of my ability to smell so food isn't as appealing.
I have lost my sense of taste and smell. I can't say it is related to my meds. I was taking pramapexole a few years before carbodopa/levadopa was added last year and it does seem that it might have began then. Will have to discuss with neurologist.
Thank you. Some days I think I am totally losing it.
Sometimes I can barely taste food at all. I also have trouble chewing and swallowing after my Botox injections. I keep losing weight. Sinimet also destroys my appetite. Food does not appeal to me very often.
