Does Anyone Know If Teeth Problems Have Anything To Do With PD?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My teeth have been getting worse since right before I was diagnosed. I've had over $17,000 done to my mouth and the few teeth that I have left that haven't been worked on are getting worse. I've had root canals, crowns, a bridge and partial upper and lower plates. Had I known this in the beginning I just would have had them all pulled. Right now I'm dealing with a tooth that is infected and must be pulled. This one has a crown on it. Any info would be appreciated.

I have had gum disease my whole life. My mother lost all her teeth in her 30s. There's a genetic thing for me. When I was a student at Oxford I had a nervous collapse. English dentistry isn't very advanced. They cauterized my gums. Fast forward half a century. I have diabetes and bleeding gums. I loose my wisdom teeth and some root canals, a partial. I had some of this done in Budapest exrta cheap, great dentists. I use an ergonomic tooth brush and and an electric one. I floss. I use a water pic. I rince with a special rince for dry mouth. I gargle with hydrogen peroxide. I brush 3 times a day. I have a wonderful new dentist and hygenist. I went to my senior center for lunch and they put out toothbrush samples. My bathroom is chock full of mouth stuff. I only drink water now. My kidneys have diabetes damage. I'm going to write a novel now illustrated with pictures taken from medical books of trully horrific dental situations. Tomorrow I'll have Thanksgiving dinner. No dessert. No alcohol no chocolates.

Dental care is required for me on a regular basis because I also have an unrelenting dry mouth due to medications. There are several OTC products that I have found helpful in addressing this concern.

That's interesting I have had 3 teeth removed in the last 6 months but never realised it had anything to do with PD

I don't know if it's coincidental, I had similar teeth problems which started shortly before I was diagnosed with PD. I've wondered about the connection.

I have been using toothpaste for dry mouth, there are 2 or 3 brands. Have had a lot of old fillings replaced and an old crown replaced. But not thousands of dollars.
