A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

(editng to say i was wondering more specifically if anyone here has been diagnosed young). I’m worried my doctor will poopoo my suspicion of parkinson’s because I am 38 And don’t have a visible tremor yet.

Hi Catra,Your mum does sound like she has pd.Your mum should be telling a dr so she can be diagnosed. You say your dr is not saying you have pd simply because there are many other illnesses that show the same systems You do seem to have symptoms that do suggest pd.If your not happy with your dr get another opinion. And yes you can get pd at your age.Usually it’s better younger as early pd takes many years to become usually bad. ..My husband has pd and has so many terrible symptoms. He can hardly walk talk his neck and back continue to ache.He does his exercise but lately his body just is getting so bad he doesn’t have the energy. I hope this answer helps .I have been through so much with my hubby..

I was 49 when diagnosed but I'm sure my symptoms started in my teens. I kept telling people I didn't feel right but saw five neurologists before I was finally given an answer. I feel so much better now than I've felt in the past six + years. I'm on my sixth neurologist and he has given me my life back. I am possibly going to have lens replacement soon and have a new pair of eyes to go with the new model!! My dad was diagnosed in his mid 80s so I consider myself unfortunate but life can be horrible and some of us are dealt a poor side It's not life limiting and I feel fulfilled in my career. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome. Whatever answer you have it is possible to still be positive and enjoy life. Perhaps not as much as you had hoped but it is up to you to make everything go your way as well as you can.

I started having symptoms at 40 yrs old. By the time I accepted I have something wrong and went to the doctor, the doctor thought my symptoms would go away! I insisted on seeing a neurologist and was diagnosed with essential tremors. I got a second opinion and was finally diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013. I have since confirmed my diagnosis with a movement disorder specialist. You are your best advocate! Don’t second guess yourself! Find a diagnoses you agree with!

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 33. I had been having symptoms since I was 30 and just kept putting them off until my family and friends started to notice. Don't waste your time seeing a regular Primary Care Doctor- go see a movement disorder specialist. It took him less than 5 minutes to diagnose me.
