I have a bad sinus infection which constricts the amount of air my narrowed (or plugged) nostrils can take in. I end up consciously breathing really hard, but when I fall asleep my autonomous system doesn't take over, and I stop breathing. I have a delusion that I need to find the right page on the computer or tablet so I can breathe. Sometimes if I blow my nose really hard (which gives me an earache), I am able to dislodge large flat plugs from the back. It also helps to pick anything out… read more

I would think that having your bed slant so your head is higher would help drain the sinuses. Have you tried a petty pot with salt and baking soda. Hope you find something that helps you. Terrible not to get a good night sleep. TC.
Probably here goes nothing. First it would be well to know upper airway obstruction UAO has been reported in a third of PD patients. The most common manifestation of UAO is soft speech. Two types of UAO have been described: 1) "respiratory flutter" whereby the vocal cords oscillate at a frequency similar to that seen in the peripheral tremor seen in PD and may result in a 'shaky voice' or in noisy breathing. 2) a delay in expiration (so it feels harder to breathe out) which can at times lead to complete airway obstruction.
This is one of the most common non-motor symptoms yet the least studied.. At present studies are insufficient to make any definitive observations. One thing is considered possible and that is, it could be the effect of the wearing off phenomenon of Levodopa. In some instances entacapone has been added to levodopa to reduce the wearing off time. .
I was raised old school, but I do know you need to sleep with you head raised, not lowered. Also I was raised with Vicks salve in my nose and rubbed on my chest which greatly aided breathing with respiratory issues.
Something recommended by my primary care doctor was a Neti Pot (all natural relief) and it clears out your nasal passages and enhances your breathing. Mine are 50% blocked from a football injury.
The best I have to say on short notice. Blessings on you as you find solutions.

Have a sleep study done and if it shows sleep apnea use a. Cpap with nasal pillows rather than a mask, much more comfortable!
GinkoLover, this is Dave responding. I have two suggestions. Many of us have sleep apnea, talk to your primary care doctor about having a sleep study to find out if you need a C-Pap machine, they help a lot. I have been on one for 10-12 years. It helps with high blood pressure weight gain etc.. For the the crud in your nose, check out Navage.com.. I bought one of their machines and it cleans out all of the pollen and booger's like you wouldn't believe. It has helped me breathe better than ever. God bless you.
Has anyone tried Novage, the system where you flush your sinuses with a saline solution? I just looked it up on Amazon...not cheap...$89.95 on sale.. Worth it if it's a serious problem for you.
