Mouth Dryness And Involutary Jaw Clamping
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am recently diagnosed with Parkinsons. My jaw has become very tight and I have constant toungue movement which causes cuts on my toungue from my teeth. My jaws are involuntarily clamping down and my mouth is always dry. I am having to wear a top teeth guard 24/7 and I am having trouble chewing my food. Is there anyone else suffering from these symptoms?

I am sorry that you have the same problem as I do. It is very disturbing and affects my ability to eat and talk. The medication for dyskenisia does no good. There does not seem to be an answer of why it started or what we can do about it. All I can do is wear my night plate 24/7 and treat the mouth sores with baking soda which soothes the pain and helps to heal the sores while I am sleeping. Also I have almost completely lost my sense of taste.

The medication my doc prescribed for increased saliva doesn’t help.

I have a problem with my tongue.I also clench down on my teeth all the time. Makes my mouth very sore. I at times have a dry mouth but mostly just the opposite. An excess of saliva My family and friends can tell when my Parkinson’s is really active. Hope this finds you well

As I keep hearing, everyone is different. My tongue has enlarged causing me to have speaking problems such as stammering and occasionally, stuttering.
