I have TMJ in my jaw. My Parkinson's affects the right side of my body with hand and leg tremors. My TMJ affects the right side of my jaw as well. Is anyone else having jaw issues?
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. Hello dear Tammy. I also have TMJ and I have to wear a nightguard otherwise I would chew my teeth up gnashing on them and clamping down too hard, and grinding them. However, during the day, without the nightguard, I have dyskinesia in my mouth and jaw and my mouth and jaw gets distorted and I don't close my mouth. I have terrible dry mouth. I chew gum to make me remember to swallow and swallowing will generate more saliva for moisture for my mouth and throat. Have a good day. Sterling
Yes!!!! my jaw pops and I have been a big time teeth grinder. so much that I have broken my front teeth off several times and suffered from neck pain and jaw as well. My neurologist suggested a course of botox injections that has been amazingly helpful to me. It eased my jaw popping and grinding and I haven't broken any teeth in several months. Also it has relaxed my neck enough so I can hold my head up straighter.
Yup! I clench my jaw all the time. It's so great to hear that I'm not alone. I relate to so much of what I read on this website. After 27 years of PD, I never realized that everyone else had pain too. I am in constant pain. When I was first dianosed they told me Parkinson's was not painful, just annoying. Ha! It's so much more!!But that was in 1990.
