I really don’t want to become laxative dependent. Are there any particular food combinations that works better for you than others. I take 2 aerobic exercise classes a week and walk the dog twice a day. It is getting very frustrating. Thanks so much.
Beverly. I have found that having some high fiber foods with each meal has helped tremendously. For me, that includes dried fruits such as prunes, cranberries, apricots, and dates. For example just 1/4 cup of dried cranberries has 40% of your daily fiber requirement. I also ensure that I consume beans and nuts. I keep Hummus around for a quick snack and Walnuts are always recommended by dieticians. When that isn't enough to get me going regularly on a daily basis, I take a stool softener which is not considered a "laxative". And most important of all I drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily and exercise regularly. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much. Yes, you have been a tremendous help. I love all fruits, dried or otherwise. I have been eating dried prunes but will add some of those other fruits and increase my water intake. I love hummus too.
MiraLax
Agree re Miralax - my sister takes it every day , has not had any serious bowel problems since starting it (did have significant bowel problems prior). It is gentle, can be mixed with liquids/custards, etc. Always best to run it by your PCP. It is over the counter
MiraLax - I take it every day
