Do I move some basics and let him go there and not return wiith me to the old house or should I move as much as possible and then make a move with him lastly. I am trying to keep the confusion to a minimum and also the aggression.
I got me some little cameras off of Amazon so I can view him on my phone. They were not expensive and are very helpful. Especially when I ttake a shower or go to the bathroom..They are called NETVUE
My husband, who has Parkinson's for years, moved from MO. to Texas after 27 years in the same house one year ago. It was a hard process but I think it helped his confusion about it it all by being around me at all times. It is hard being in a new place and surroundings without his main support which is you. The confusion and fear will probably still be there but you are his anchor more than anything. I wish you and your husband the best. Bob's wife
Call one of the parkinsons hotlines. You can find them on line. Very helpful
Hope it works out. I have to clean out my large home all myself as my hwp falls too easily doing anything and is confused as well. Good luck with everything. If he wants you there with him, it is a hard thing to do with what you have to do. I get up early before he awakens and do things, and also when he is napping. If I can see him in between other chores, I check in on him. Good luck. It is hard!
The following day, my parents and I had a relaxing brunch, and then I took my parents to show them their new home. Everything looked exactly the same as in the old house, except that it had an interior design flair to it, making it look so much better! They took all the stuff my mom said was the most important and put them front and center, and if there were things my parents said they didn't care as much about, they were put more out of direct eyesight.
The bed was made, the drapes were put up, the paintings were put on the wall, the silverware was put in the kitchen, the food was put in the refrigerator, the closets were unpacked...even their underwear was put in the same drawer they had it in before! They even left a little snack gift basket as well as a pack of "We've Moved" notes that my parents could send to inform people of the move! Talk about attention to detail!
When my parents walked in, they cried! But it was happy tears! They were so happy and everything was so beautiful and the ladies had taken great care of everything! My folks were able to start their new lives right away without all the usual hassles of moving in and getting settled. It took away all the confusion, anger, worry, and hassle of moving. In fact, after my dad passed away (he had Alzheimers) I hired them a second time to move my mom to a smaller place, with just as amazing results. In fact, my parents place is always the room that the Assisted Living facility shows off when they have potential new residents bc it was so well decorated and all done with love.
I am SO sorry that you have to leave your home of 50 years, but THIS is definitely the way to do it. And if you are not in the Indianapolis area to use this fine company, just google "Senior Relocation Specialists" and there are many across the country. I cannot recommend it enough! It was worth every penny!
