Your PCP can’t know everything. It isn’t possible. That’s why they send us to specialists. PD is a highly misunderstood disease. It’s imperative you have a specialist, and it’s imperative you have a good one. Some of them aren’t very good. Check them out.
You’re Dr will probably do a teleconference with you. This is not ideal, but it will give you the opportunity to share your symptoms with him, so he can prescribe medication and refer you to PT. He’ll want to see you walk so you should set up where’s there is a hallway behind you. Most good neurologists can diagnose you based on the way you walk.
I agree with Dale
After 3 different interviews with 3 different doctors l finally found a neurologist who SPECIALIZES in Parkinson’s. ANd it’s made all the difference in the world. He is so very different in the way he does things and talks about it all
All of these answers are good. I would add that it is important to get a movement disorder specialist, and it is important to get a good one. Check with the people in your area to find out who they have and how they like them.
In order to get medication to ease your symptoms or speech or physical therapy, you'll need a doctor's order. They may also be able to rule out stroke as a cause of your symptoms.
