Terrible Pain
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem. My ex-husband (don’t worry….I’m not looking to finish him off-----we’re the best of friends) is in incredible, I mean INCREDIBLE pain. His tremors are under control thanks to medication and his balance is OK but the pain…. From what he describes, it sounds like muscle contractions that don’t go away. It used to be in his lower extremities but he just told me that now it’s travelled to his shoulders. He walks hunched over and can… read more

Hi Steve. Don’t worry about the typing; your post was quite legible. I’ve seen much worse from teenagers that either can’t spell or refuse to.

PD is a wicked disease. I’ve heard that people have it before symptoms appear. My ex mentioned that the first tremor he could remember was 11 years ago when we travelled cross country to our son’s wedding. I would say he’s between stage 2 and stage 3 of PD. He’s on Levodopa. It’s helped the tremors immensely. Before he was on it, if he was having a bad day, you couldn’t even get close to him because you’d get accidentally hit by him, they were that bad. His balance right now is not too bad it’s the achey pain he’s dealing with.

I wish you the best. Hang in there!

Hi,
I have pain due to muscle contractions in my calf, neck and shoulder. Full body massage helps, stretching and going to a chiropractor will help. What medication is your husband on? I take Sinemet.

yes I have severe pain in my legs; unfortunately, due to our government, doctors can only prescribe very limited amount of opiates which really help. I have difficulty walking, but can without assistance.

I doubt the neurologist can do much. A pain management doctor may be able to help with targeted injections... I rely on Tylenol and CBD gummies and lidocaine patches which you can buy OTC at 4% or ask primary care for a script for 5%.. And exercise to a point helps, but I find exercise also causes pain. But I do it to not lose what abilities I still have physically.

Look on U-Tube; there is an excellent lecture by a Parkinson's specialist which explains why Parkinson's pts feel pain more than people in same age group without PD.

There are also exercises on U-tube with exercise classes specifically for PD. . And rest too. I hope this gives some help.

As we age, we all have aches and pains from arthritis which only adds to the problem. .

You can ask your husband exactly where he is feeling pain. and that information would be important to pain management. .

Good luck.

His PA keeps a pretty close eye on his blood counts but he really does not drink water and our daughter and I are always on him about it. He's gotten a bit better. He just left here after a visit and he did ask for a glass of water. I'm very anxious for this upcoming appointment to see if there's anything that can be done. Being in stage 2-3 of PD with this type of pain, I don't know how he'd ever make it to stage 4 and beyond feeling like he does.

Hi terrible pain, sorry for you both and hope you find help. Diagnosed August 30 from a movement Neuro and I am still in shock, denial, searching for answers, good and bad google. Everyone here is so great and knowledgeable. Tonight I just fell two times. I got out of my chair and went to put a folder on my desk. All of a sudden I went spinning down. My legs just gave out. I have had bad pain in the legs also, especially my upper legs in the upper front. I have lost so much weight I can barely stand up. I have to do prep tomorrow night for colonoscopy Wednesday. I don’t now how I can do it. I guess I will just stay in “that room” with my I pad watching TV. If I fell “running” to that room would be a tragic mess. Everybody stay well and happy and don’t forget to see your other Dr s, the other parts of our body’s red to stay in shape. Terrible, hang in there, what med did he take for tremors ? SteveH
Zips. Does anyone have trouble with typing mistakes? Takes me an hour to make it halfway readable. I know I am hitting the right keys…..😀
