Has Your Neurologist Ordered Sinemet To Help Diagnose Parkinson's?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Neurologist order Sinemet 1 tab, 3 x day. My husband took this for 3 weeks with no change. Doc now wants him to take 2 tabs then increase to 3 tabs to make sure it doesn't work. Has anyone experienced this, did it help diagnose PD, and what were the side effects?
Thank you
Patricia

My neurologist prescribed Carbidopa-Levadopa to diagnose Parkinsons. Since I did not feel complete relief the diagnosis was not certain. I asked for a DaTscan which is more accuarate.

Eva,

Is you doctor an MDS, a Movement Disorder Specialist Neurologist? If not, please see this type of Neurologist. They work with people like US. Most every diagnosis is performed by physical observation using a variety of physical 'observation' tests. Although a DatScan is very effective and is how I was diagnosed the observational test is also important. I highly recommend you see an MDS.

Take Care!

My neurolgist first diagnosed an essential tremor, then an orthostatic tremor, and as it progressed to a resting tremor, parkinsons. Depends where and how the tremor presents itself. Essential tremor is present during movement. Parkinsons is a resting tremor. Orthostatc tremor is a tremor in the legs mainly when standing. The DaTscan can help distinguish between an essential tremor or Parkinsons. If DaTscan is normal then maybe an essential tremor. If only legs maybe orthostatic. There was no other tests ordered for me. It was just a physical evaluation and then a DatScan when I asked for it. I am NOT a doctor but I am trying to find out everything I can about this problem.
