Please keep in mind that since the COVID pandemic, a lot of folks are having all kinds of issues with smell and taste. My husband has PD and loss of smell has become very pronounced. I don't have PD, but since the pandemic, my sense of smell has been way off, especially lately. But maybe I just have a sinus infection, or maybe it's psycho-somatic - it seems kind of out "out there," but I do seem to be able to conjure smells, both good and bad, at times. Like when you have a song in your head over and over, sometimes throughout the day, the same smell comes over and over. But I notice that only seems to happen when I am thinking about my sense of smell and worrying about it! It's weird and lately I keep wondering if maybe I did have asymptomatic Covid at some point....I hope that you can release your worries about getting PD. It's good to be aware, but lots of people have family members with PD and DON'T get it and vice versa...

Yes, the loss of sense of smell, known as hyposmia, can be an early and gradual symptom of Parkinson's disease. It can impact people long before other symptoms develop, sometimes up to a decade beforehand.
