I don't know if it helps to let him know when he forgets to do important things like close the freezer lid (lost some food) or if it is demoralizing for him. Of course, after the fact is not helpful, but if I try before he does the task, he gets grumpy and tells me, 'You're not my mother." Other times he just gets sad and quiet. We have that problem. He'll go out of the house and leave the doors wide open or the garage open or both. Drawers and closets also. It's usually after the fact that I noticed. Then I'm definitely frustrated that I have to go around shutting everything. But ,if he's in the act of getting something ,I will remind him to shut it. Just a simple "shut the door".

Hi hopeful1, don't let the ice cream melt for heaven's sake 😃 I can only give an opinion. It's as simple as this for me. It the way she says it. If she speaks gently 're the freezer door I'm more inclined to listen and everybody wins. She doesn't get upset , we avoid losing food and more importantly I have ice cream ! Not easy I know but it's the only way to maintain calm. I wish you well 😃
