My neurologist specializing in movement disorders said she found me much worse today than last she saw me three months ago. I walk on my own for short distances but use a walker mostly for balance issue on longer walks. Use carts when shopping. I need to exercise? I also have arthritis and T2 diabetes, so exercise is a must. I’m thinking pool would be best? Any ideas for things at home? I don’t want to get worse I’m only 59.
I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with these challenges but applaud you for reaching out and taking charge!
Check out YouTube for PWR Moves as well as balance exercises. There are a lot of great posts there that you can follow along with. My husband struggles with gait and balance and we use a variety of simple moves to help him. Standing on one leg (with chair in front if he needs to catch himself), walking toe to heel alongside our kitchen island so he has something to keep him stable, leg lifts, side to side steps are a couple examples. Make sure you have something to hold onto to help keep you stable while you build up your strength and endurance.
