Does Anyone Else Experience Difficulties Separating Dream State From Reality After Being Woken Up?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am taking Sinemet however my dreams/ nightmares are even more intense and when my husband wakes me I cannot seem to differentiate between dream and reality. It makes me less than pleasant and difficult to be around. Thanks in advance!

I have had that same problem at times. It is very disconcerting and requires a moment to decide which planet you are on.

My husband tried Sinemet & his dreams elevated to a level that was terrible. He had to be taken off of it. He now is much better but had to be put on a medication to help with hallucinations. This disease is so hard to deal with. As a caregiver it is a real rollercoaster ride.

I know the feeling. I too, Mellisa experience the same issues that you are having with sinemet. Mine was getting so bad because it was taking me to places in my past like Vietnam which I never want to be there ever again!!!. The hallucinations and delusions are being held at “bay” with a 24 hour patch called Exelon. I began at 4.0 MG. I’m now at 9.5 MG and it appears to have “tempered “ the “light show” in my head! Good question. What is great about this Parkinson’s forum, we are never alone!

My wife claims that I often wake up somewhat disoriented. It usually last a few minutes and can involve me acting out or maybe continuing a conversation I was having during a dream. When it happens, I do feel confused.

Bless you Melissa, Yes, I have a horrible time nightly with RBD. I act out all my dreams in addition to hallucinations. Most of the time my partner will let it run its course but some nights he has to shake me. I have found having a second bed/couch helps me to compose myself. Best of luck, God is trying to tell you something.
