What Is End Stage Parkinson’s?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

All our doctors tell us u won’t die FROM Parkinson’s, but u will die WITH Parkinson’s. Then how can there be an end stage? Pretty sure we’re about there. I’ve read everything I can find on Parkinson’s and know symptoms of all stages. Just wondering 💭?

I was given the same answer and asked for clarification from my neurologist. She said that 50% die from complications of a fall and 50% die from complications from a disease most common pneumonia. My Uncle 92 and my wife's Aunt 84 both died from Pneumonia just too weak to fight it off.

I've never actually cared much for the statement that "you won't die from Parkinson's, but you will die with it".
If you die from a complication such as a fall or say Pneumonia then yes technically the complications caused your demise, but you would not have had said complications without the disease.
It's the same with heart disease. You have a heart disease, have a heart attack and die. Did the heart attack or the disease kill you. You wouldn't have the heart attack and be dead if you didn't have the heart disease.
Same with Cancer, you did from complications caused by the disease.
To claim Parkinson's or any other degenerative disease won't kill is reckless and irresponsible at the very least.
If you live long enough with any progressive degenerative disease, it will kill you.
Thankfully Parkinson's tends to operate on a slower schedule than other issue's faced by the elderly.

Hi you two,
Wow, I did not realize it was that bad. I can see my hub needs to get into his Neurologist and talk to him about his meds and his never ending amount of sleeping he does. Everyone is telling me to sell our house and I am now starting to think it may be a wise decision. I cannot handle it all anymore and am getting worn out with all the house and yard work to be done and I am starting not to sleep well and I already have sleep issues. So got a lot to think about. Thanks for your posts. Hope you both have a good day. Take care, BFN!❤️🤗🙏😊
