Why Is It That A Stroke Is Sometimes Misdiagnosed And The Real Problem Is Parkinsons???
I have had a stroke and have PD.
With the stroke I lost ability to write or read for a year and loss of right side control.
It did create problems with my diagnosis of PD as many of the onset signs I thought were residual Stroke Problems. When I went for my BIG physical therapy they were able to diagnose my problems as 70% PD and 30% residual stroke.
My neurologist handling my stroke retired and the new neurologist had experience with Parkinson patients. He sent me to a movement physician who agreed and sent me to a Hospital for diagnosis which confirmed it.
It is definitely confusing, my stroke was 2008 and PD diagnosis 2021.
I have no answer to this question. I will pray for you.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2004. I suffered a left hemiplegic stroke in 2020 even though I was prescribed Eliquis, a blood thinner, morning and night. My first experience with a pulmonary embolism (p.e.) was at the age of 18. I have had numerous p.e.'s in my lungs which culminated in an IVF filter being placed in my aorta in 2007. This filter protects both my heart and lungs from p.e.'s. Parkinson's disease has nothing to do with my p.e.'s and vice versa. However, if I could only choose one, it would definitely be Parkinson's. My PD is controlled every 6 hours by medication, there is no medication that brings you back from a stroke. It has taken me 3 years to learn how to walk with my cane(s) everywhere, and without one indoors. My speech and swallowing were not affected. I knew when I had my stroke, because I couldn't move the left side of my body, and this was my 1st indicator that I was not experiencing an "off period"!
Good question I'll Google it
