If you don’t automatically get Extra Help, you can apply for it:

Or call Social Security at (Phone number can only be seen by MyParkinsonsTeam users). TTY users can call (Phone number can only be seen by MyParkinsonsTeam users). You can also contact your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) to get free help applying.

You can apply for Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs) at the same time. These state programs provide help with other Medicare costs… read more

Great idea Ginny.
Folks, also remember to ask pharmacy if they accept programs like Good Rx, RexMd, and Single.care. These can all be used in combination with or separate from health insurance and Medicare/Medicaid. Often, the manufacturer offers discounts on meds so please check their website for discounts or coupons.
I'm sorry this is so complicated and messy, capitalism at its best.

If on Medicare, check to see which are the preferred pharmacies for the Part D insurer. I compare the different insurance companies every year since they are constantly changing. I've changed twice in the past 3 years. There is a several hundred dollar difference for my husband's meds depending on whether I buy them at Walmart, the grocery, or CVS. With his insurance last year, Walmart was cheapest. For his new insurance, the local grocery is cheapest but Walmart is still much less than CVS. Another insurance I looked at, CVS was the least expensive place to get meds.

I had a subscription for 90 days at a cost of 99.95. My doctor had a message sent to me from some doctor, who I took to my pharmacy and he charged me $61. The letter asked the pharmacy to charge an estimate of $34.69 but does not say for how many pills. 30 or 90. My son said to go to Costco. It isn’t far, but there are so many people there and where I go I never wait more then 5 min. They call me by name and are very helpful. Plus they deliver for $5. So, I don’t want to change. You have to check with your pharmacy what they will charge, and if way too much, try Costco if you can. Beth
