The doctor should have given instructions as to how many pills and how far apart. Usually, they start with a fairly low dose, and then increase as needed.
The main thing is to not take the pills with protein. My husband tries to take the pills an hour before or an hour after a meal. The protein prevents absorption of the dopamine, making it less effective.
The Dr should have told him and it's on the bottle
My husband takes 2 - 3 times a day. The pharmacist spoke with us when they dispensed them and said that the most important thing is to take them as evenly spaced as at all possible. That keeps the highs and lows at bay. So he takes his every 8 hours. He even has a very small container of sinemet in his pocket so he can take the mid day dosage where ever he is at the necessary time.
It wasnt until later that I heard about spacing around the intake of protein.
Sinmet is a name for Carbidopa/Levodopa. It's also given for dopamine which the brain loses. It also improving movement and muscles and stiffness. Look up but contact me if you need to talk. I take that first 1 then 2 then 4 and had problems reduced to 2 12 hours apart. So far fair
