Most of us have been doing things without consciously thinking about them for a very long time. Those days are over. I’ve instructed everyone in my life not to talk to me while I’m doing something. I can only do one thing at a time. I haven’t fallen since I made that decision.

Oops didn't mean to post yet. I have been taking SENEMET since the beginning and asked my neurologist about changing. Ordinarily he would change but I have so many other.medical probs with
heart, lungs, sp,inal stenosis,
Takotsubo, stroke, arthritis... he decided to could go on and on but the point is that he doesn't know how another drug might affect all the other shit (pardon my language) so last week he raised my doses of Senemet and see if that helps. Please say a prayer for me.
Good luck to you. Lack of balance can be very scary as you well.know. God bless you.

Balance issues and falling are common in Parkinson's disease due to both motor and nonmotor symptoms. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

Motor Symptoms Contributing to Balance Issues:
- Axial Rigidity: Stiffness and loss of flexibility in the neck and trunk.
- Freezing: Sudden, temporary inability to move.
- Bradykinesia: Delayed reaction time and slow movements.
- Changes in Posture: Stooping or postural instability.
- Changes in Center of Gravity: Affecting balance.
- Impairment of Reflexes: Reflexes that help with balance are impaired.
- Vision Changes: Blurry or double vision.

Nonmotor Symptoms Contributing to Balance Issues:
- Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure): Can cause dizziness.
- Fatigue: Slows reactions and ability to focus.
- Stress: Tense muscles can disrupt balance.
- Cognitive Problems: Trouble organizing thoughts can lead to distraction and falls.
- Dizziness or Blurry Vision from Medications: Medications like amantadine can cause these symptoms.

Strategies to Improve Balance and Prevent Falls:
1. Talk to Your Doctor: Discuss your experiences and symptoms to find ways to prevent falls.
2. Review Your Medications: Some medications or dosages may affect balance.
3. Practice Balance-Improving Techniques:
- Sit-to-Stand Exercise: Practice sitting down and standing up with support.
- Balance Exercise: Practice stepping side to side with support.
4. Use Walking Aids: Canes or walkers can help maintain balance.
5. Home Adaptations: Remove tripping hazards, add grab bars, ensure bright lighting, and clear clutter.

Tips for Overcoming Loss of Balance:
- Swing Both Arms While Walking: Helps maintain balance.
- Walk to a Regular Beat: Like music or a metronome to prevent freezing.
- Consciously Lift Your Feet: Imagine stepping over a laser.
- Use a “U” Technique for Turns: Imagine walking in a U shape instead of pivoting sharply.
- Focus on One Task at a Time: Move slowly when changing positions.

Personal Experiences:
- One member mentioned, “My biggest challenge has been overall balance.”
- Another said, “I lose my balance very easily.”

By following these strategies and consulting with healthcare providers, individuals with Parkinson's can take steps to improve their balance and reduce the risk of falls.
