I just finished my DBS surgery and calibration. The shortness of breath is gone. I mean 100% gone.

I get a bit anxious and tense when I'm having off time. I sometimes practice breathing exercises during that time and I have found that is helpful.

Yes, shortness of breath (dyspnea) is a common experience when Parkinson's medication starts wearing off. This happens when medication becomes less effective over time, affecting brain chemicals responsible for movement and memory. Many people report feeling like they're not getting enough air, even while resting. Members of the community have shared similar experiences. Some report feeling extremely fatigued with shortness of breath during their "off" periods. To manage this, your healthcare provider may suggest adjusting your medication dose or schedule.

It's also worth noting that anxiety, which is common in Parkinson's, can contribute to breathing difficulties. This can create a cycle where shortness of breath causes stress, which in turn makes breathing more difficult.
