This is Darlene, No they don't hurt. It is just like doing a MRI. They use medacation in IV that pin points Lack of Dopamine your brain make in specfic area of the brain,

Except that my husband died of MSA; how could I be sarcastic or rude and about this disease. after losing a loved one .
The worst part of DATscan is having to wait four hours before you have it done. They make you swallow this liquid to protect your thyroid and then you have to come back four hours later to see the technician that does the DAT scan.
No they put a halo on your head and the iv in they send you in and play what ever music you want I fell asleep
