I am seeing my third psychiatrist since being diagnosed in 2017. My current doctor is well aware of Parkinson’s Disease and also specializes in geriatric concerns. I couldn’t be happier with him! Don’t settle for the first psychiatrist you find. Find the one who meets YOUR needs! I’ve done the same searching for a counselor. She is perfect for me. Even though she recently relocated to South Carolina, she has decided not to retire yet so we have zoom sessions. When you find the right help, you’ll know!

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, my experience of people that has never experienced mental health issues, is that they do not understand what it is about. It is totally outside their frame of reference. On top of that, the perception that Hollywood created of psychiatry lays very much in the realm of scary. Think of "One flew over the cocoo's nest", "Silence of the lambs" and "A beautiful mind"

Parkinson's Disease by definition is neurological, which means it's centered in the brain. How can the brain be malfunctioning and our mind not be affected? My problem is that I can't keep up with all the copays.
