Members in this thread about sugar cravings and Parkinson's medications shared a mix of personal indulgences, practical swaps, and emotional solidarity around the challenges of managing diet with PD. Several members offered helpful alternatives to satisfy sweet cravings, including frozen strawberries with soda water, dark chocolate, berries, nuts, and low-sugar frozen treats, while one member shared using a glucose monitor for instant feedback. A recurring theme was that with so much already taken by Parkinson's, allowing small joys and indulgences, in moderation, felt like an important part of quality of life.

I have turned into a world class snacker. We keep plenty of things around to snack on. I try to eat healthy snacks ( berries, fruit, nuts and low sugar frozen treats ). But I really like ice cream - so I try and control how much I consume. I am diabetic so it is even more important. I wear a glucose monitor so I get instant feed back if I don't behave.

My husband's Neurologist told him that a beer is okay as long as it doesn't affect his balance too much. He indulges in a beer every night. He was a pretty heavy drinker before his PD. I'm glad right now that he can have one without issues.

Sherri Dark chocolate can be good for you and tolerated it you are lactose intolerant as it contains no dairy. I am severely lactose intolerant but my guilty indulgence is dark chocolate covered pistachios or cashews with a small glass of red wine which my nutritionist encourages. The darker the chocolate the better.
