Are you concerned about taking too much Sinemet with your current dosing schedule?
Taking Sinemet (levodopa) every two hours is not uncommon for managing Parkinson's symptoms, but the right dosage varies greatly from person to person. Some people need frequent doses to maintain steady symptom control throughout the day.
However, it's important to work closely with your doctor to find the right balance. Taking levodopa too frequently or at high doses can sometimes lead to side effects like dyskinesia (involuntary movements that look fluid and dance-like, different from tremors).
Here are some signs to discuss with your doctor:
- Experiencing involuntary, writhing movements when your medication is working best
- Noticing your symptoms fluctuate significantly between doses
- Feeling like your medication wears off before your next dose
- Having trouble with weight loss or constant movement
Your doctor may suggest adjusting your dosing schedule, changing the timing of doses, or exploring other medication options to help smooth out symptom control. Never adjust your medication schedule without consulting your healthcare team first, as they can help you find the most effective and safe approach for your specific situation.

How many total pills are you taking? Do you have side-effects like dyskinesia or hallucinations? My husband is taking 900 mg. per day, while his brother is up to 1200 mg. per day. So far that seems to be working, after 6 years on the meds.

@Queenduanac, I believe that I've seen more than one Team member state that they are better off without Sinemet or any Carbodopa/Levadopa medicines. Rytary is the only medication I have been able to tolerate. Without it, I am serious trouble quickly. Talk to your doctor about how you're feeling.
