- Sip water frequently throughout the day
- Chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free candy to stimulate saliva
- Use a humidifier at night to add moisture to the air
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can make dryness worse
- Try over-the-counter saliva substitutes or mouth sprays (ask your pharmacist)
- Breathe through your nose rather than your mouth when possible
It's also worth mentioning dry mouth to your neurologist or doctor, as it can sometimes be linked to medications. They may be able to adjust your treatment plan to help.
A speech-language pathologist (SLP) can also be a great resource — they work with swallowing and mouth-related issues and may have additional strategies tailored to your specific situation.
