Two days ago I was at the supermarket and fell flat on my face It seemed like my Sketcher got caught on the floor and I could not catch myself and went down. Paramedics came and checked me out and luckily nothing broken. But I am extremely sore today and wondering if there are any better shoes out there to wear. Thanks for your feedback. Bean

Members came together with lots of helpful shoe suggestions for Bean, who took a hard fall at the supermarket while dealing with balance issues related to Parkinson's. Several members recommended barefoot-style shoes like XERO or Hike barefoot shoes for their wide toe box and grip, while others swore by redesigned Crocs, Skechers Go Walk slip-ons, or Cadence shoes made specifically for Parkinson's. A recurring theme was that falls often come from the brain and freezing, not just footwear, so being intentional about lifting your feet and using a cane can make a real difference.

Bean,
First GO BAKER, now I have several pairs of Sketchers GO WALK
SLIP ons and I love them I use a cane also,
But I also have NEUROPATHY in my feet, legs and hands so
it might be a tad more
difficult to answer your question but Sketchers
really work for me very comfy and the heal is larger covering more
Earth. GOOD LUCK 👍
and 🫂 🤗

Cadence Shoes are for PD. And yes, they are expensive. We went the extra mile of removing all carpet in our condo and put down engineered hard wood. I still stumble but not as often. What I’ve been told is to be intentional. Think about picking up your feet. It seems simple but our brains don’t function like they should - especially on our affected side. So we have to think before we move to help reduce falls.

Hi Bean
Quality Barefoot tennis shoes. Not the cheap ones. I got mine on Amazon. One of my PT therapists wore them & recommended them to me. There is a removable thin inner sole or remove & wear without the sole. It allows your feet & toes to spread somewhat which gives you more balance. The outer sole is not high like many tennis shoes. I have worn one pair for several years so they wear well. It’s like my toes & pads of my feet grab the floor spread out. They don’t look like some with those big wide w/ the big toes look which are not the same. I don ‘t like that look plus they are not like the ones I wear. Mine doesn’t have that look. It looks more like a regular shoe while having a wider toe to let your feet spread while not being obvious. They allow me to walk more securely. Mine are a pretty turquoise color but there are other colors. I love the look of mine, but most of all I can walk more securely. I have used the thin inner soles & without it. I prefer without the inner sole. I feel the ground but not pebbles or other things you might step on. The brand name is
XERO. They also have a dark grey not stripe but elongated mark on the sides & a little below the bottom of the shoe laces are sturdy & greyish. A nice looking shoe. I wear them everywhere. The best shoe I have tried since having PD. They are pricey, but are worth every penny because they help stabilize me, breathable w/out looking it & as I said mine are 3 yrs old, I wear them everyday, & still look good.Very durable. If you are interested check on Amazon & on search look for the name with barefoot tennis shoes. I hope you can try them. If you don’t like them you can send them back to Amazon without a hassle & have the option of bringing them unwrapped to the store they use in your area. Here is Koles. Easy as pie. Hope you find what works for you.
Also it’s painful to fall, especially on your front & face. I’m sure you hurt a lot, but in time it will ease & get back to normal if nothing was broken or fractured in my experience. Some take longer but take care of yourself & listen to your body. My best to you.
Blessings & Prayers
Carol.

I'm now wearing Hike barefoot shoes. They are comfortable and the wide toe box let's your toes spread out.

Hi Bean,
I am currently wearing r-designed crocs. They are comfortable and the cuts on the bottom are designed for you not to fall. My PT recommended them. I did find some good re-designed ones on Ebay……..Gordon…🤔😉🏃‍♀️
