My Husband Had PD With Extreme Hypotension. How Are Others That Have This Problem Coping With It?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

He takes 10 droxidopa, 3 midodrine and1 fludrocort a day to keep his pressure up but even with that if it is warm he is likely to pass out if he goes outside. He also passes out if we go out to dinner with friends and linger over the meal to chat. His normal blood pressure can drop about 60 points when he stands up.

Orthostatic Hypotension
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering if anyone shares my situation.I like many of us have orthostatic hypotension- My BP can go from 140/90 to 60/40 in seconds and obviously i get dizzy sometimes blacking out and losing consciousness. Then at times my BP is VERY high as in 220/110. When it gets high I have been sent to the ER and they insist on meds to lower it which then impacts the orthostatic hypotension. Hard to find a doc who understands this. At one point I was taking Northera which is specifically for… read more

Northera
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Greetings
I have been taking Northera since the beginning of November 2018. My dosage is six capsules three times daily (18 in total)
Among other side effects, “reduced weight gain” is listed.
What does this mean? Is this weight0 loss?
I have lost a good deal of weight (12 lbs) since I began taking this drug. I seem to lose a pound or two monthly.
Truthfully, I don’t feel much better from the drug. Also, I always had low blood pressure, and Northera was prescribed to raise my levels so that I… read more

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband has Parkinson’s and now we are dealing with low blood pressures and he passes out upon standing. He’s on Northera but it’s not working like we hoped. Praying for answers.

I carry a wrist BP cuff. That way I can confirm if my BP is not just feeling low & know that I need to take the Midodrine. I also drink Gatorade or Propel (no sugar)

Does Anyone Have Orthostatic Hypotension (low Blood Pressure Upon Standing)?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I do and I'm taking carbidopa/levadopa but it makes my blood pressure go down even more than it already is, so neurologist also has me on midrodine (for blood pressure). these meds have helped in a l o t of ways but I still have many Parkinson's symptoms that haven't been addressed yet by m y doc as she said she's worried about my low bp (so is reluctant to prescribe more meds as they all seem to cause low bp). I was diagnosed 6 months ago and getting desperate for treatment of my other… read more

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, if the Northera is for low blood pressure, ask your doctor about Midodrine. That's what I take and it's been around a long time so it's not so expensive. If I'm not… read more
