I had the same problem. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinsons about 10 years ago. He was fine until he had a fall and broke his hip. After the operation for a new hip he was completely different and was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. This was 4 years ago. He has deteriorated very fast and is now in a care home. I think it was the effect of an anaesthetic on an already damaged brain.

We went through this when my husband had the same surgery. The nurses in recovery weren't giving him any meds but his Sinemet. Once we got him home and back on his regular meds, things started improving. The anesthesia is rough on PD patients. We helped detox him from the anesthesia with herbal supplements (Milk Thistle, Cinnamon, ultra formula multivitamin) and it helped.

Thank you for answering my question. My husband came out of hospital after 5 weeks and went into a care home but he was given Rivastigmine for the dementia and he has made a miraculous recovery. He is now at home again and seems even better than he was before. The doctors call him their star patient. Do not give up hope. Miracles do happen.

That is when my Parkinsons showed up I has a spinal fusion and decompression That really set everything in motion I am in a wheelchair full time now in the space of three years Need full time care now I think the surgery made it get worse like a runaway racehorse

i have had surgery on my spine. i still can't walk much but it is something that is always there to complicate things. the dr put me on valium - wow -- my family did not think i was going to recover my senses.

if he is on pain meds etc have pharmacy eval
