I was started on a low dose of carb/levidopa and a year later ropinirole was added. My brother was D/x 3 weeks ago and they have started him on Azilect. I find it interesting to read all of the different meds and combinations used to treat this disease. I hope it goes well for you.

I hope everything is going good for you now, it's scary to change pills, and not knowing what will happen.

I was first started on amantadine, but had an allergic reaction to it, then went on cogentin, then requip. then ended up on cogentin, mirapex and sinemet. and for the last few yrs now i stopped the cogentin, but need the other two.

I was taken off ropinrole abruptly because I was having a really hard time on it and started taking pramaprexole - aka Mirapex - in its place. It was much easier to tolerate and I don't recall any withdrawal. Did you start out on the requip/ ropinrole / agonist? It seems that all of us have started with all different meds and in different sequence.....I wonder what the typical first 3-5 years look like for parkinsons patients and their daily med regimen?

wow don't quit cold turkey, I tried going off my meds, dr. said I could try, very slowly, I got off 2 of them, then was starting on the 3rd one, I felt terrible, everything started feeling different, I phoned my dr, crying to go bk on them again, at the time I felt like I didn't need them, but my body told me different. so now I'm bk on 2 of them, and I will never do that again.
