We discussed future treatments, possibly DBS. We discussed nothing about being off work. I asked for a letter for a to update my employer about my chronic condition (have to do this every six months) and the letter she handed me stated that I was unable to do my job at this time and would need to be off of work. I had a job that I loved and my job loved me! I was created to do that job!!! And, I have Parkinson's! I struggled daily to do the job. Some days, I would get up and only do my job. I was neglecting my husband be a I would come home and head for bed!!
I dragged myself to this thing and that until I no longer could do it!! One day, I couldn't get out of bed! I made an appointment with my doctor at that time. He told me that was it, and I was sent to a specialist in Chicago! She told me that I needed to prioritize my life and that stress is a major exacerbater in the advancement of Parkinson's. So, after much thought, I quit my job. However, I was having trouble with my mother and I literally was forced to cut her out of my live! My relationship with with her was so toxic! When I saw my neurologist for my next visit, she said that the stress in my life had advanced the disease 5 years in just a few months! I ended up with bilateral DBS surgery!!
The surgeries was successful and I can walk. I have severe dystonia as one of my symptoms. I have learned the value of the word "no", and I make better decisions about what I will do with my energy!
Seriously, look at your life and ask yourself if what you are doing is making you sicker and does it support my caregiver!!?? That's a relationship that you need to treat gently and with kindness! You don't want to mess with the person or persons who may have to be your helper later on down the road!!
Hope this helps you!!

My wife had the same situation. It left her in a bewilderment mood. I felt she had to still have a "purpose in life". She agreed and is still working. Yes she has PD. But the "fight song" explains the rest. Go for it.

Something to look into is whether your employer offers disability insurance.
