Does Anyone Use Sinemet Instead Of Carbidopa-Levo?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was just talking to someone in the drug section at publix who asked me why i did not take Sinemet instead of Carbidopa, after I had a problem with the new manufacturer they were using for my Carbi. It was not reacting with me well.. I did not know why my doctor did not give me Sinemet. Maybe because the price is higher?? I will have to look into that. My question is, do any of you take Sinemet instead of Carbidopa and why, and if you found it to work better,

@Allan1009 I take carbidopa-levadopa 25-100 1 tab TID. I do well on it and costs $15/month. The med I do not like because I lose my balance and gait, starts with Ropi.... It cost $75/month. We had a med sweep in our community today so I took it to the police dept. as I'll never take it again. I did not write the name and dosage down. I thought Sinemet is the name for the med I didn't like. I think I got it mixed up and it is the named for carbidopa-levadopa.

I've used generic Sinemet 25/100 with excellent results.... I now take 12 Sinemet 25/100 mg and 4 Comtan 200mg which extends the active components of Sinemet ... with no issue or negative symptoms...

There are multiple strengths of ratios available in ratios 1 to 4 verses 1 to 10. What it appears to me is that other "similar" meds utilize different chemical component that have other side effects. I take 12 dosages of Sinemet 25/100...and for a 3 moth supply in generic form is 1080 tablets for 90 day supply for only $20.00 copay.... Pretty darn reasonable I'd say ! ...Alan

Sinemet is a trade name medication. Carbidopa/Levodopa is the generic name and the same medication as Sinemet. Both come in the same 3 dosage options. As with all medications- you pay more for the trade name. Some people do report a difference in the effectiveness with trade name meds versus generic. Some report no difference. 🙂

I also just started taking the Sinemet yesterday and was taking Carbi for 12 years. The manufacturer changed on my Carbi pills and I was not feeling well so I told the doctor to give me the brand name Sinemet to try. So far into it one day, I see no difference so far, will let you know anything further.
