I am always hearing that one vitamin or another is lacking or low in people with Parkinson's eg the other day it was Vitamin D, today there is something about vitamin B and I have also read that magnesium can be low. In view of that, are you all, in general, having routine blood tests from time to time? I have not been asked to supply blood for a test in a very long time and I am wondering if I should prompt them!
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member Hi yes do ask for blood tests. My GP is very good and orders them regularly. I have to have 3 monthly B12 injection. This was picked up following surgery when every time I tried to stand, I blacked out. I had to have a blood transfusion. I am also regularly checked for Diabetes, Thyroid and anything else she can think of. Take Care. Jenny
My regular doctor has my blood work done every 3 months of course I am a diabetic 2 now I'm having trouble with my iron levels they dropped way down today I went for a Iron Infusion hopefully that'll bring my iron levels up before it was vitamin D then it was vitamin B12 so I agree it's always something
MY GP also checks routinely(when I go) my b-12,vit d levels and thyroid levels. My b-12 and d have been low for years before PD diagnosis-thyroid always normal. There has been research regarding low vit d and b vitamins for Parkinson;s and I would recommend having the lab work
I have had it for two years and not once have I been sent for blood work.
I don't think i've been requested to have a blood test by my neurologist for years, i have fortnightly blood tests for fibromyalgia. I take magnesium for cramps but no other vitamins, and take Q10 as a preventative for the heart, prescribed by the neuro.
If i was to take anything off the shelf i would discuss with GP and or Neuro before taking. cheers YW
