I'm quickly coming to the realization that retirement is near due to advancing Parkinson's. Is there any program to help those with disabilities pay for student loans?
Yes, there grants you can sign up to receive and you don't pay them back. You can find this information at your college councilor office.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. If you are not earning over a certain amount, you don't pay. I had mine cancelled when I reached 60. I had done my degree at 45 and had not paid more than a relatively small amount. It just took a phone call. Good Luck.
Yes there are programs. I was able to get my student loans forgiven through the company who had my loans. I had to retire because of the PD causing pain. Anyway it's well worth going on your student loan website & look for loan forgiveness due to medical reasons.
I had a life policy which included critical desease and once diagnosed I was paid out the full amount of the policy. which I used to pay off my mortgage.
That helps a lot. I am also experiencing some cognitive function challenges that make it difficult to work in academia anymore
