What Kind Of Bed Should We Get For My Husband?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

He is having nightmares and fell out of bed last night. He wants a queen bed that is lower to the ground and firmer so it is easier to move around in it. I doubt if he will agree to a hospital bed. Maybe I could get rails like you put on a child's bed?

I rented a hospital bed but the mattress was hideous. I did have a queen but we moved and my new bedroom isn't really large enuf. I have a bar installed which I can use to get up and down. Another tip get a cane with a light attached for those midnight visits to the john. Finally keep a plastic bottle handy which you can piss into in an emergency.

I took thee box spring off my bed. The mattress is pillow topped, but not too soft. It’s so much easier to get in and out of bed now.

Does your neurologist know about his nightmares? I'd make sure he/she knows. If your husband has RBD, there are medications that can help with that.

We went and bought another queen today.
With bed and box springs on floor, it is 19 inches, the height of a kitchen chair.

He also dreams of work, but solving IT problems. Those dreams have not been scary, but they seem real. He wakes me up in the wee hours to make sure he isn't still dreaming. Luckily I am an early riser.

This morning dream and fall was frightening to him. He has been on Seroquel only 2 weeks.
