For years before my diagnosis I’ve had swelling in my right foot and leg up to my knee wich is my affected side.Ive been to several different doctors and had several different tests done but never got an answer on what was wrong so I just learned to live with it.Now im thinking this has something to do with Parkinson’s?Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Yes. My `feet, lower legs swell and it’s getting worse. I’ve had several `tests, but still no cause.
Yes, my left side was affected first. Now both sides but I feel like my left leg is always swollen & more difficult to move. I do see a movement specialist. Now getting PT.
Make sure you get an opinion from a Neurologist who is also a Movement Disorder Specialist!!!
Yes. I’ve been experiencing some other indications of Parkinson’s for quite a while-constipation and loss of smell-but I figured that that was just a sign of perhaps aging. Then I suddenly developed Edema in my lower left leg; had a series of tests, was stil undiagnosed until my daughter-a physician-
said she thought it was perhaps caused by Parkinson’s. Was examined by a neurologist and my daughter’s diagnosis was confirmed.
I now wear a compression sock on my lert leg-my PD affected side- in the 20-30 mmHg range during the day which controls the edema (actually I wear a pair because I do have a bit of edema on my right side also).
Any of the thin “ dressy” type socks in this pressure range are probably effective, but I still like to wear shorts here in Southern California and prefer something more athletic so I’ve found that “Crucial CompressionStore”s product works well for me. Amazon has them listed as “Crucial compression
socks for men & women (20-30mmHg)”
Back to your original question... Yes, the edema apparently was one of the effects of my PD.
Perhaps this will help.
Thank you!!
