i find myself walking as if having had too much to drink. i cannot lean but a fraction forward and backward as well without almost falling. i am totally new to all this. i am not sure what to expect. my p.y. says there is no way to no for sure. my brain could pull anything.

Loss of balance is very common. the facebook blog Out-thinking Parkinsons by Gary Sharpe has several novel ways of minimizing this problem.

A good trick that I have found to help keep me going in a straight line is to swing your arms with each step. Left foot forward and right arm forward then right foot and left arm forward and keep on swinging. Other wise I too look like I am leaving a late night bar party. That is a bit embarrassing going down the hallway at church. PD likes to throw surprises at you. Just be ready to meet them head on and fight right back. Keep on keeping on.

I agree....walkers become a necessity for balance and safety. Also, check with your PD doctor about adjusting meds.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I have the same problem.. And if in dim light or dark, I lose my balance and have too feel my way along. I guess it is simply because of PD. I also walk like a drunk.

Update: I saw eye doctor today and he said I have diplopia which causes these symptoms also. So that might be something to check out. He said cataract surgery might help so I plan to have that in the near future.
