Johann. did I not read where caffeine was a recommended (coffee) drink for us PDers?
Hi. I have not made a study of it yet, but I can say without a doubt that food with added chemicals like preservatives, coulourants, taste enhancers (like msg), and stimulants like caffeine, cannabis with high THC level all contribute to putting your body under subtle stress wich has an undeniable influance on my anxiety levels. Having an elevated anxiety level affects my balance and movement wit PD.
Have a blessed day.
Johann
I should have said that I only drink a good decaf. It seems to not affect my anxiety, and I can have more than one cup a day.
I'm about 80% successful...I had a big, fat, juicy ribeye at my son's a little while back and felt no guilt making it disappear. Everybody needs some guilty pleasures. I've been much better, more salads, less high fat dairy products, no alcohol, even my one or two glasses of evening wine. With my heart issues I take too many meds that say don't do it...plus my PD balance issues don't need the additional help. I don't know if your a salad eater but my sister has given me a very tasty yet simple recipe for one. A bowlful of Doles baby spinach...top with cashews (she uses lightly salted, roasted...I use raw)...real bacon bits...mandarin orange slces from the can and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Sometimes I'll add sweet onion and/or cherry tomatoes and substitute glazed pecans for the cashews. If I want to make a total meal out of it I'll get a bigger bowl and add big chunks of grilled chicken breast. Pretty good stuff. When she gives me more recipes I'll pass them on if you would like. Hope you are feeling well. Tom
I read that a high protein diet makes your meds less effective. Said to eat fish, nuts, no red meat unless extremely lean, infrequently and in small portions. Nuts, berries, very dark chocolate (70%+ cocoa), legumes, avocados, etc. are all recommended. I don't have a big sweet tooth but a bite of a fresh, ripe strawberry combined with a small bite of dark chocolate is pretty tasty.
