My hwp has days when his nose runs uncontrollably- his Dr says not realated to PD but I've been reading it is a side effect. Does anyone else have this and how do they treat it v
Yes it is associated with Parkinson’s. I don’t go anywhere without lots of tissue.
Rhinorrhea is the technical term for runny nose. It literally means “fluid from the nose” and can refer to anything flowing from it. Carol Jacques, the nurse practitioner who worked with me for several years, pointed out many years ago that a lot of our patients with Parkinson’s disease had a runny nose. I didn’t think much of it. She found that a nasal spray ( https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a618013.html ) worked very well and she’d prescribe it, with wonderful results. I patted her on the back and paid little attention.
Last year one of my patients, who had fairly advanced Parkinson’s Disease said, “I can tolerate the problem with walking, but what really bothers me is that my nose is always running and it gets so bad when I eat that I can’t eat in front of anyone because it drips into my food.” So I prescribed the drug Carol told me worked, and it did, but more importantly, I got to wondering how common a problem this was.

Thanks - do the Zyrtec and a saline nasal spray - some days good some days endless drip - no correlation to weather or location-
Yes, a runny nose is a common part of PD . Just carry a Kleenex in your pocket all the time.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - that was an interesting article. Both my husband and I have constantly runny noses. He has PD; I don't, but my father had it so it may be in my future. We both carry handkerchiefs at all times.
