I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Any Luck With Meds That Help With Freezing And Festinating?
Levodopa carbidopa has not helped with my major symptom
LSVT Bg has been good for me. I continue to walk much better by doing most of the program at home 5 times a week. When I do not, I feel a lot worse.
My husband has had problems with festinating. It usually leads to falls. It's what ultimately led us to see a neurologist. The carbidopa did help somewhat. Physical therapy (LSVT-Big) also helped because it worked on how he walks, so he takes larger steps and is more upright. He hasn't been doing the exercises lately, and it does make a difference. He is back to small steps, but hasn't festinated for a while. The main thing we do is try to stop him before he starts the rapid steps. As soon as he starts leaning forward and shuffling faster, we stop and he tries to straighten up and get rebalanced. Then we start walking again. On our afternoon walks, when he is tired and is due for another set of pills, we may stop a half dozen times. Still, it's better than falling.
This is the first time I've heard of this. Took a quick glance on Google, but haven't read enough to help you out. My major thing is horrible balance and what little I read I think it could get me. I'll read tonight and ask a few questions and tell you what I think. I'm sitting here recovering from my 2nd hip fracture. What's next. I hope you're doing real well. Talk to you later Sweetie.
Carol Froberg. My name and pictures seem to be missing. I'll add you to my team.
