There are very few people answering questions here with any qualifications. What they do have is a collective knowledge of what it’s like to live with this disease. We take this collected knowledge to our neurologists in order to able to ask educated questions at our appointments.

Neurologists are brain experts, but most of them know very little about this disease. Movement Disorder Specialists are neurologists with 2.5 years of additional training in Movement Disorders. That make a huge difference.

If you have Parkinson’s like symptoms your likely to be referred to a neurologist. Having a place like this gives you the information you need to determine if your neurologist actually knows how to help you. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone here who has the same neurologist they were originally reffered to.

I’ve talked to many people who have been told things that were just plain wrong. I know that because in the resource section here you can read articles from the experts. They are all peer reviewed.

I won’t say you can’t get bad information here, but there’s always another member with different information, so you don’t just run with one opinion.

We’re all having a hard time texting. I should proof my texts, but I don’t. I tend to leave a lot of words out.

Parkinson’s fell upon neurologists, because they’re brain doctors. They were never adequately trained to treat the disorders that result from the brain irregularities that result from the brain abnormalities they discover. This created an enormous hole in our healthcare system

Training for Movement Disorders is supposed to close this hole, but this hasn’t been widely communicated and referrals are still being made to Neurologists.

PCP’s should be encouraged to Movement Disorder Specialists only and lists should be made available to those PCP’s.

Whoever gets to the computer first Ed. I had a reply from one of the cleaners one time which although contrary to the neurologist, turned out to be correct !
