I'm widowed, going on six years with slow progression. Don't give much thought to the stupid disease although it's chipping away. I live on an acre and a half, constantly working outside and enjoying it, knowing it will overwhelm me at some point in the future. In 'My Story', I mention that one should continue to 'ring all the bells you can ring'.

I think about that rain coming my way almost everyday but I try to turn that worry into drive to keep my skills as functional as possible. This is easier said than done.
After coming home from surgery, I looked into a national company that advertises help to find care givers. There were very few applicants and the billing structure of that company was a recipe for fraud. This soured me to using this type of service again.
I have posted ads at my local supermarket and churches with no success. I'm willing to pay the same as private businesses and do not need personal care yet, just help with more challenging household duties and transportation. With the unemployment rates as low as they are, it is unlikely I will find someone who wants to do this type of work.
I live in a 1 story home with a all of the handicapped niceties and a Safety Alert system but I am still alone. At some point I will have to consider moving to a facility but I worry about the cost and quality of care as they are having difficulties hiring qualified and quality people as well.
I hope that next move is far off into the future but I wish I had more options, better plan and more money but the facts are the facts. God has walked with me through this journey so far. I know He won't abandon me when I need Him the most.
Hope knowing you are not alone is a tiny bit helpful. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers.

I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago. I have an adult daughter who has autism with me full time. I’m hoping for a long life with pd so I can take care of her. I have 1 sister who helps but she works a full time job.

Wow, thanks Lucky. I was introduced to Visiting Angels for home care after breaking my hip and they were wonderful. But I didn't think they offered hourly or P/T assistance. It is pricey but there are times when I need to take the dog to the vet, get my hair cut, or help with bigger home projects and I can't do it and my hair shows it (lol). Like you, I wouldn't be able to support it long term but it would be such a relief to know I could get help somewhere. Agencies like that have difficulty recruiting, especially in rural areas like mine but it is certainly worth a shot
Thanks for the great idea,
Maria
