My MWP is 78 and was diagnosed in 2018. She was always very vibrant…played tennis and bridge, gardened beautifully, hosted dinner parties that she did all of the cooking for, hosted several parties a year for 100+ guests, raised 3 daughters and helped raise 6 grandchildren and currently has 2 great grandchildren and she cannot participate. Approximately 50% of people have Parkinson’s Disease. Combined with all the other symptoms in Parkinson’s, depression can be very hard for a PWP to deal with.

Ginny is absolutely right (you’ll come to understand that’s very common) this needs to be addressed.‘she’s not going to do it on her own, so you need to do it for her. It should be very easy to get a determination that she
Is not capable of making her own medical decisions at this time. She’ll thank you later. It’ll be very uncomfortable In the meantime, but left to her own devices, she may find a way to end things.

Hospice is generally for people who have less than 6 months to live. Parkinson's doesn't usually kill you. A diagnosis of PD wouldn't be enough to qualify her unless she was bedridden and unable to take care of herself at all.

Has your mother tried antidepressants or psychological counseling? It sounds like she needs help that hospice wouldn't be able to give.
