Both treadmills and cycling can be beneficial for managing Parkinson's disease, but they offer different advantages:

Treadmill:
- Balance Improvement: Treadmills can help improve balance, especially when used under supervision.
- Variety: You can adjust the speed and incline to vary the intensity of your workout.

Cycling:
- Better Motor Control: Cycling improves motor function and leads to higher scores on the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Motor III Test.
- Heart Health: Aerobic exercise like cycling raises your heart rate and protects your heart.
- Fatigue Management: Cycling can help manage fatigue and improve energy levels.
- Balance and Injury Prevention: High-speed cycling on a recumbent bike has been shown to improve both static and dynamic balance, reducing the risk of falls.
- Cognitive Function: Cycling can enhance cognitive function, making it easier to perform mental tasks.

Conclusion:
Both forms of exercise have their benefits. You can mix cycling with other forms of exercise, including using a treadmill, to stay healthy with Parkinson’s. Always consult your healthcare provider to tailor an exercise regimen that suits your specific needs.

Additional answer was a long hoped for prayer. We were God- directed to our beautiful, loved adopted son. Depressed for one thing that is replaced by something even more incredible. Love, JudyTx 🌹🫂🫂🫂

Johnek, between having poor balance and arthritis in my knees I find the treadmill difficult to use.

What works the best for me is a recumbent stationary bicycle. I can get my heart rate up. It has low impact and I can adjust the resistance.

Judy, I'm sorry to hear that you can't ride your bike any longer . I hope your feelings of depression subside. In the meantime I will pray for too and ask God to grant you peace .
