I've been in the dental field for over 50 years (not a dentist, but have held every other role including dental lab owner). I have prided myself in my perfect dental health. Basic prophies (cleanings) and check ups requiring very little work. Since I was diagnosed with PD last June I've developed gum disease, needed 3 crowns and presented with considerable decay. Yes, the dry mouth and lack of saliva are contributing factors as well as the "fall out" from medication. I've been on a 6 month recare schedule for all of my adult life and recently put myself on 3 months.

Jane, please don't apologize. Your are doing God's work under extremely challenging and unpredictable conditions. Thank you for all you do! May God reward your outstanding effort and persistence.
Also, thanks for bringing dental health to our minds. Whatever the cause, PD related or not, none of us need this additional challenge if we can avoid it.

I am speaking for myself only.....pain is my nemesis. That said I do realize that addiction is real but so is pain. In my view as long as you are not exceedingly the doctor's recommendations,, please give the medication as needed. I have been on pain medication for a long time. While I do not exceed the limits of my doctor there are times when I am close. I am covered in pain patches, cbd cream and I still need the pain pill. I also take very hot baths with Epson salt. Sometimes it is like that and sometimes i can stay with the minimum. Use the pain scale to determine the need. Pain takes up a lot of real estate in the brain. Be watchful but don't allow your fear of potential addiction to color your perception of their ability to handle their pain. The struggle is real.😕

I'm so sorry Jane20, This disease doesn't seem to give us a break. I wish you both well in spite of the many challenges we must endure. Sending healing hugs to you both.

Oh my, Deb501, I am sorry you are going through all of that with your teeth. I was suspicious his was related to PD.
He is bed ridden and on hospice now. Of course palliative care is all they offer. His body hurt all over last night and all day today. two extra strength Tylenol haven't given him any relief. I'm just not ready to give him his first dose of Morphin, because I know that will just lead to more.
We tried moving him into a lift recliner. two regular recliners, the hospital bed, and now back to lift recliner. None of those helped his body pain. Dreading tonight.
