Have You Read Either Of These Books?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

In September, Mary Beth Sylis wrote a column for Parkinson’s News Today about two books she was reading about Parkinson’s disease: Both Sides of Now by Alice Lazzarini and Parkinson’s Disease: 300 Tips to Make Life Easier by Shelley Peterman Schwartz.

If you read either or both, please share your thoughts.

I will also like to read them. Has anyone read Dr Doige's books "The Brain that changes itself." and "The Brain's way of healing" Both of these books were the result of a group of neurologists who met together over coffee and discussed rumors of people who had been "cured of their illnesses" Doige is also a renowned poet and he decided to go to meet some of these people who had claimed to be cured. Some turned out ot be red herrings but the majority had some truth to them. He came to Cape Town to go to a neurologist to settle the matter of whether John Pepper did in fact have Parkinson's or whether he was as fraud.
Doige was convinced that he did in deed have PD but there was very little in the way of symptoms by which to make this claim. John had had PD for 50 years and you would never have believed it. He came to our Support Group and told us what to do. I was one of the few people who upped their walking time! He got an old lady up and asked her to lift up her knee on one side which ever side she wanted to start on. Next he had her put her foot out in front of her and holding her arm firmly walked at some speed around the hall! IT was amazing to see. Unfortunately the people around us don't like to see us moving around. THe carers area scared they will lose their jobs if you fall on their watch. Your family members don't want to have to pick up the pieces! It is all extra work for them. So I guess I will get out my knitting and crocheting again to keep them all quiet. Big Yawn! Dr Doige would let me walk around! I can highly recommend reading Dr Doige's explanation of brain plasticity.
