There is another option to DBS if you have reached the point where medication is no longer effective called FUS or focused ultrasound. It is less invasive than DBS but is permanent and cannot be reversed. There are advantages and siadvantages to each procedure. Here is what the Michael J. Fox Foundation has to say about it.

Monique, As you see from the responses of other community members, there are additional treatment options after the C-L dose is max'ed. I would just ask your and your husband's doc to review if the C-L dose has been maximized before moving to surgical interventions. What I'm suggesting is to review your husbands current care plan to determine:
-Does your husband have iron, thiamine or other levels that may effect the adsorption of C-L. Uptake of
C-L can be improved by correcting these other elements and increasing C-L so a dose increase may not be needed.
- Is your husband following the eating regimen that impacts the effectiveness of C-L? Remember C-L 30 min before a meal or sizable snack or 2 hrs after a meal or sizable snack.
-Is your husband taking other meds, for other diagnoses, that may reduce the effectiveness of C-L or cause the tremors and other symptoms. This may mean that if the tremors, etc are not caused by PD, increasing PD meds may not be the best way to manage these symptoms. Perhaps these other causes for the symptoms
need to be managed and this may not require changes in C-L.

Keep in mind, it can be easy to put all ills under the PD umbrella to the exclusion of other illnesses or causes. Before choosing brain surgery, I would want to be sure these other possibilities have been evaluated and addressed first. Please consider this and if you choose, talk to your doc about this possibility before making the final decision.

Deep brain stimulation. My hwp had it recently and it resets the amount of medication needed to a lower level. He tolerated the surgery very well!

My husband had DBS 14 years ago. It has been adjusted several times and he’s had 3 battery changes. His dosage of Carbidopa-Levadopa went from 9 pills a day to 3.

There's always alcohol or medical marijuana, but exercise & .fun activities are probably better
