Has your doctor recommended knee replacement? If you are in constant pain, that may be the best solution. You said you take gel, do you mean Hyluron shots? That can help temporarily (6 months or so) but seems to become less effective every time.

I know there are several people on this forum who have had joint replacement surgery after being diagnosed with PD. My husband's knee replacement was done several years before he was diagnosed, so PD wasn't an issue.

Talk to your neurologist about what you need to do and discuss with your surgeon before you go to the hospital. The Davis Phinney book, Every Victory Counts, has a section in the back about going to the hospital when you have PD that may be helpful.

I couldn’t take narcotics either. Was able to have both replaced using xtra strength Tylenol. Best thing I ever did.

thank u Ginny. I have read your comments before. My new knee DR is very good & nice. I guess they were the Hyluron shots. It's been 3 weeks. I'll do it again in 6 months. Replacement has been suggested, but i have reasons,i don't want that. Looks like I'll have to eventually. People have had good results!

My husband is the one with Parkinson's but I was told in 2014 that I needed knee replacement in both knees but I can't take any kind of pain medication other than something like acetominophen-cannot take any NSAIDs or prescription pain medicines due to reactions so I have not had knee replacement. I had three of the hyaluronic acid injections each one a year apart and found them helpful with the exception of one that I do not think got to the right place. I did not find the first shot which was cortisone to be helpful at all.
I have been having acupuncture for knees for about 6 years with some help. I also take some anti-inflammatory supplements and TCM. The pain is fairly well managed when walking on a flat surface but stairs are harder- right knee slightly worse than left knee
